One more overly-macho guy who thinks he's heroic for sucker-punching someone. (Dude. Learn how to deal with people so some other kid doesn't have to get a fist in the chest because you think he's a smart mouth.) The fact that he's in a church bragging about it makes it even more retch-able.
Even worse yet, I've seen the look of sheer terror on a man's face when he's on his deathbed, about to leave this world with no idea of what to expect on the other side of death.
Oh yes, I remember, you are called to a lot atheist deathbeds. These can't be Christians you are talking about, surely.
But here we surely agree.

Even if he claims that Jesus told him to, you and I both know that it can't be true.

Not a lot, no. But a few. The one in particular was for the husband of a woman in my congregation. He had not attended church since he was about 6 years old and was dying at the age of 85. He was terrified.

Religion can make the natural biological fear of death even worse by telling people there's a finite chance of never-ending torture after they die. That kind of religion is not a healthy way to cope with the natural fear of death.

You did read my post, right? The guy that I am speaking of was not religious. He had no belief. But he was scared of what was to come.
It's a good thing he didn't punch one of my kids or grandkids in the chest
I imagine that preacher was very proud of himself from the way he boasted of his abuse. I have seen it happen many times in church, and heard the "amen's" and saw the bobble heads.

It IS a ruined life to lay there and think back on your life, knowing that it was all meaningless as you prepare to enter the afterlife without a hope.
Many hospice nurses will tell you that this does not happen. There is a forum where hospice nurses write about their patients who have crossed over and what experiences they have had. They all say that it does not matter what the patient believed in, that they have similar experiences. They talk about going home, they speak of deceased family members that are there to take them home, and they seem pretty content when they pass on and are not afraid or without hope.
