Odin is thought to actually be one of the youngest (newest) gods incorporated into to the pan-Germanic pantheon.
Although he is commonly refered to at the 'Father" of the Gods and a figure in the recorded creation myth which I alluded to earlier in the thread, two other gods, Ullr and Tyr, are thought to have previously held that role.
Euhemeristically, scholars believe that the Odin archetype was introduced with the advent of a new or foreign ruling class that rose to power at some point, usurping the position of chief god of the previous ruling cult.
Then Odin is out.
So we have:
Sumerian aliens, assuming a significant population CURRENTLY worships them
Hinduism
The Judeo/Christian God
...with that last being the newest, the middle being the oldest.
The Sumerians have the oldest known written language.
Sumerian language, language isolate and the oldest written language in existence. First attested about 3100 bc in southern Mesopotamia, it flourished during the 3rd millennium bc.
Not really - human conciousness and perception of "God" does not start with 35 million gods in Hinduism, including a cow, monkey, elephant, rat, snake, a female figure with 10 arms and 8 legs etc.
It starts with the first human that walked on earth - and that's the God of Adam and Abraham.
This is way before Hindu gods came on the scene.
Here's my take on this.
Like bitcoin, Old Gods are made available for crowd.
In case, say a major religion crashed or is been crashed down. Billions of people suddenly stand before a bottomless pit - what to do? Where to go? Who to believe?
And here's a friendly hand already offering an exit. Old Gods.
It will be naive to believe that all this return of them is request from the people. Requests from the people are created this way: first, something is being propagated. Odin is a great god. Thor is a kewl guy. Then, voices rise from the crowd - we'd like ot have more. In response, more is provided, resulting in more requests.
Suddenly, Old Gods become a valued item. Fan clubs. Shrines. Druids. Btw, pay attention. Old Druid gods are still "evil". It's the Scandinavian and Greek ones that are "heroes and saviors". Druids somehow didn't make it right in this return. Look at all them Roman legions in Britania movies.
