1.to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes.2.to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance: to gamble on a toss of the dice.
You're talking about gambling. Gambling involves taking a risk that you might win or lose something. Casting lots does not involve risk. It's simply a method that was used to determine who would get what.

Let's say you and a friend are contemplating two movies you want to see. You can't make up your mind, so you decide to flip a coin. If it comes up heads, you see one movie - tails the other. That is what is known as "casting lots". However, if you were to tell your friend "I'll bet $50 that it lands on tails", then that would be gambling. So there is a difference. And if I'm not mistaken, each time casting lots is mentioned in the Bible, it's in the context of trying to make a decision. They didn't say "I'll bet 100 coins that I get the long straw".

Therefore any link between "casting lots" and gambling would be erroneous. As far as I know, the Bible says nothing about gambling.

You know what would be interesting is to find out how many Christians out there don't believe in gambling, yet invest in the stock market.

June played solitaire online once. She bet really high stakes against herself. Thank goodness June won.

Bad June.

What would have happened if June lost?

That's good!

I tried to play chess against myself one time but the other guy kept cheating. It was very annoying.

well shutdown the stock market.

Funny chess story..

Situation: LT's big brother is quite fond of himself in an intellectual way. He always feels as though he is the smartest person in the room.

Well we played online chess a few years back. The first match was a blood match that he ultimately won. It was quick and brutal. He was crowing a bit too much so I asked for another game.

Well we start game number 2 and I downloaded a free chess game. I would take his moves against me.. punch them into the game then let the computer make a move (essentially my move against him) then I would make that move. He was essentially playing a computer while I sat back and laughed.

The game went on for over a week. He tried and tried and studied and studied to try to find a way to win the match but to no avail (sometimes taking 2 full days to make one move).. which ultimately made him mad that I would make a counter move in 30 minutes or less (had to make it look realistic).

I let the joke go for few months after the game (he didn't want to play me anymore)..so I let him in on what I did.

To this day... it is my greatest rigging of a game.

bt-cheater at chess

I won a pound of bacon one night at a fair when I was a teenager. Have you ever lugged a pound of bacon around on a date?

No, but I've lugged around someone that looked like they ate a pound of bacon on a date.
