I don't think that Christians suffer from a higher level of being overweight than the general population. I was always one of the fortunate ones who had the ability to be a thin glutton (a term someone else used). It's really a health issue and there's no connection to religion.
any more learned provision would sure be welcome, especially in the fields of diet and medicine which the global market forces got out of control. imho.
Oh for the love of Twinkies. We're ALL fat. (Not all individually; all meaning as a society, any faction has its percentage of fat people. The U.S. is currently a majority-fat nation.) As far as gluttony being a sin, yes, it is, but I've not met any Christians who claim to be sin-free. Therefore, so what? Yeah, Christians commit what they would call sin and they admit to doing so. The point is...?
Proverbs 23:20-21 “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” Proverbs 28:7 “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” Proverbs 23:2 “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”

It's no secret that in the United States many Christians are either super-fat or super-obese
I can't figure out the purpose of this thread, but I've got surprising news for you.
I live in Oregon, which is supposedly the state with the lowest count of church-goers in the nation (I have my doubts about this, but that's been the so-called statistic for a long time). And you wouldn't believe the amount of obese people here, and it's something I've noticed since the early-80's, and I think it's worse than in California. Seriously, I commented on that a lot way back before the nation started to catch up.
Therefore, I think if you peered into the homes of athiests and non-church goers, you'd find just as many "fat ones", too. French fries and couches do not discriminate.

Really? I thought the Pacific Northwest was full of hikers (which could just be a horrible generalization on my part). I wouldn't have ever considered an obesity problem there.
