Any comments on the Cold Springs area? All the vitals look good: low crime, low taxes, low property costs, less parched than some other areas. I'm looking for something along the CA border so I can have a tax residence in NV (maybe just an RV lot with hookups) but spend most of the time in CA.

It's just a northern suburb of Reno, it is about 15 minutes north of Reno and probably does have somewhat lower crime. The weather is the same as Reno. I don't know of an RV park in Cold Springs. I'm not sure if you're really going to save that much in taxes vs. Ca. Nevada nor California have state income taxes, but there is about a 1-1 1/2 percent differnce in Sales tax (CA being higher) depending on where you are. Washoe county requires a smog check as does California. Property taxes are higher in CA, but probably not much considering it's an RV. If you don't mind sharing, where are you going to spend most of your time in CA? Will you be working in CA?

California does have a state income tax - about 9.3% the last time I looked.

Still working on the details. It's been 25 years since I visited the left coast so I don't have a clue. Don't need to work. Don't particularly want to live in a parched desert. Basically I want to enjoy the natural beauty of CA while paying NV taxes. May invest in RE, foreclosures, rehab, rentals etc. May buy property in CA, title under NV LLC & cross the border now & then just to keep the CA revenuers off my case. I understand Douglas County has lowest property taxes. CA sure does have income tax.

We live out in Cold Springs and it is a nice quiet area. It doens't sound like you are looking for the family life, but that is a definite perk out here. It is a great place for kids. Bordertown resort has an RV campground right off of 395, but I don't believe they have permanent residients. Check it out!

Bordertown does have permanent residences. When we left Reno in June, we had sold our house and stayed in our RV until school was out. When we left, Bordertown was $500 per month, that included water, sewer, cable, and very spotty internet service. There are showers, a laundry and the casino/restaurant. There are about 6 RVs' up there that are there permanently. It was quiet, and management was pretty cool. They also have a storage yard, that they were charging $25.00 per month to store RVs.. Hope this helps!!

Unfortunately, this is a common mentality these days. I want mine and don't want to pay for it. I want Nevada taxes and California services. Yea right. Same as the bloody tea partiers that will be sucking us dry with medicare and medicaide in a few years, but are always whining about the taxes. We all know their kids will be carrying them...the UNgreatest generation...

And isn't it funny that the most "patriotic" flagwaving types are usually the most likely to not want to not pay their share?

What do you plan on doing in CA while living in NV? I can't think of one thing to do in CA that you can't do in NV unless you plan to drive 1.5+ hrs one way.
