I figure this part of our lives might last another 20-25 years.
I’d like to stay here but not at the cost of long drives for medical reasons.

I designed/built my place in California near 40 years ago and it’s not going anywhere any time soon I just hope I don’t have to return to it.
We spent some time in Forks,on the 'Olympic peninsula'...I'd prefer Sequim out of those towns, however the winters were starting to get crazy with all the snow.

Beautiful country up here but trying to escape the winters without going extreme (Florida, GA, etc.)
Those areas are beginning to improve. The loss of textile and furniture jobs sent the towns toward a point where they were expected to become the Detroit of NC. For awhile, the depressed areas spawned a lot of crime.

I really want to move back to the Winston-Salem area, where we lived for almost 30 years. Once we retired, being taxed on just about everything you own, plus high health insurance premiums sent us over the border into Tennessee. We thought "next door! How could it be different!" pffft I have never experienced such toxicity brought on by politics. It is vile.

Medicare kicks in for me in a little over a year. We're really looking at moving back.

Being one of only 2 places I've been to besides Miami...for a long time I dreamed of living in Las Vegas..Yes,I've been there in the summer also. Loved the energy, driving on those vast, empty mountain roads...the cool weather in the winter...the casinos of course...Though they were among the things that got me in trouble financially for life.

My sister and nephew lived there for 15 years(30 for my sister);until they moved to Olympia,Wash. for nephew's work. That was 10 years ago.
My nephew has sworn that he will take care of me when I can no longer take care of myself;which is approaching a lot faster than I thought it would. I really don't feel comfortable with that...he's got a family of his own(a SAHM and 2 kids)

My sister is 76 yrs old...so I can't really count on her for support in that aspect. She has been hinting that she wants to go back to Vegas...she says she's bored in Belfair,Wash., where she lives in subsidized housing. That will probably be a pipe dream...she lives on $900 SS a month and has had trouble covering her $650 rent. Besides,Washington state has the most generous social services in the country, whereas Nevada is one of the worst.

I was also in Granite Falls,Wash. for my nephew's wedding...that was nice!...In the winter it looks like a Christmas postcard.
But Washington state is basically unaffordable for someone who will live on Social Security alone, like I will.

So.none of that is happening for me. I will end my days in a Medicaid nursing home smelling other people's poop/urine,just like I did last year for 4 1/2 months.
I will keep playing the lotteries,of course.

Near the Oregon coast. Not necessarily right at the coast, but not much more than an hour away.

Any chance you are US Veteran qualified?
Washington state has (2) superb Veterans homes. Eligible if poor in finances and well in health. Both are fairly close to Olympia, and one quite close to Belfair. (Retsil). Get there if you can... Otherwise get on a wait-list for subsidized housing. Soon. I know a lot of happy, but financially poor seniors in Washington. Our local senior breakfast is today... Gotta run! It's great to chat with them, and serve them.

You took the words right out my mouth with this comment. And very easy to stop along the way and take in the sights or have a pleasant conversation with someone.

Coronado or somewhere along the CA coast south of LA and north or San Diego. La Jolla would be nice.

If money didn't matter, I would live in Monterey, CA. Money is an issue, so I am happy in New Mexico.

Maine in the summer, East Texas in the winter.
