So it goes. I quit my home health job with veterans. The management (one woman) was impossibly incompetent, the onboarding for my job non-existent. I heard nothing from them for several weeks and then got a schedule of on-call listings (news to me) that could involve a 200-mile round trip and night driving. I would never have taken the job if they told me that. I live in fear of night driving with poor night vision, never mind 100 miles each way.

The incompetent woman didn't contact me, the secretary did, who had been as helpful as possible.

I'm not looking for a job (the post office is still hiring!) but will miss the possible income. And the veterans.

Sorry to hear about your bad manager. Unfortunately too many had to put up with incompetent, bad managers for sake of keeping their jobs.

Well I'm sure there are other employers out there looking for a good employee that wants to make people's lives better I'm sure you'll find another one that appreciates you.

Sorry this didn't work out. It sounded perfect for you.

I don't like driving at night anymore either.

There are currently over 40 caregiver jobs in the city where my 93 year old mother is in an assisted living facility. They require people 24/7 so you can probably set the hours to avoid driving during darkness. From what I have heard all of them are having trouble finding people. Perhaps see if there are any adult family homes, assisted living facilities, or even senior apartments in your area that need your help.

Also sorry to hear it didn't work out for you but at least you gave it a shot. Maybe there will be something better coming your way soon.

Are there any veteran homes around that could use your skills?

We have them here in Texas.

Yea I am not a good night time driver either. And 200 miles - no thanks.

I am not overly looking for a job, just that the one I quit fell in my lap and it sounded ideal. I have no desire to use my RN to work in a senior care home or such. While I would have liked the income, I'd rather do without than have the stress.

The V.A. hospital here is 100 miles away and most of the work or volunteer gigs are there, 100 miles from where I live. I am going with the Elks next month for a "thank you/ice cream social" which always seems to be appreciated by patients and staff. I am not an Elk, but a good friend is the veterans agent so I do attend things to help her.

My wife did caregiving through an agency. There are tons of job opportunities if you are not set on working only with vets through such agencies.

^^^
It's only because of the vets that I considered another healthcare job.
