Try getting checked OUT from a hospital after a procedure, in a town where everyone knows everyone and everyone has tons of family. Trust me on that one! It's a big issue for me inthe little town I live in by myself. I say I don't have anyone and they look at me like I'm from the planet Neptune.
Some times they refuse to do the procedure, period.
I have provided transport to many friends. We know we need to depend on each other. And we do.
I do the same thing. I don't want them to worry about feeling comfortable and safe, and they know I'm dependable. I figure one of these days, I might need help.
That's what I was going to suggest, but decided to read the thread first to see if anyone mentioned getting help from their church family.
"staystill", if you do not have a church family, many of the larger, and even smaller churches have a "Helping Hands" ministry which provides transportation service for those who need it.
When I stop driving I will move to a facility that provides transportation to doctors, etc.
I watched as an 80 year old man forced his daughter to do all of that, and more. I say "forced" because she could not say, "No". I always thought he was a helpless old PIA. I'll move to where I can get help if I need to.
Doctors and the facility for the procedures say Uber is not permitted yet none of the facilities or doctors office has anything to help with transportation both ways. Maybe I am remembering wrong, but I could have sworn they use to provide or recommend transportation with a company, drivers they know don't have a criminal record. But now even when the patient offers to pay for the transportation, they won't do it.
Now there may be one or two Doctors who have a service but it's in another state which is no help at all.
Taxi's only now go to the airports so that is out too. Which I wouldn't recommend since the last time I took a taxi I swear it was the most filthy car I ever saw and no seat belt.
I'm not being snotty but I'd be considering moving. Not so much because of this specific, very occasional transportation issue. Living in a place with so few friends and, everdently, so few options would be very depressing to me. No way to live out my final years.
Yes - when I was younger I said that I would move to the medical center area of our big city - to be close to medical care.
Now that I am older - I don't care -
