quote: Just know you're in the minority, and ultimately, you will lose - even if it takes years. Sucks for you guys!

Sure hope you're right. I keep thinking of the Walt Kelley quote:

"We have met the enemy and it is us."

A pro gun person's utopia:
Everyone- man, woman, child, walks around with weapons- ready to shoot at any slight or infraction- a frightening dystopian world. Some people are even seriously proposing arming teachers in schools!

Incredible to me how people who don't believe in impulse control for others think they can exercise it easily themselves!!! It's the very people who don't trust their neighbors who think that having heavy weaponry is sensible and it will never be used in anger or mental dysfunction? How many times have any of us been angry enough to kill and would have had a loaded weapon been handy? The proliferation of guns only leads to more violence, both planned and inopportunistic. This has been demonstrated over and over.

Holly, I largely agree with you (as you well know), but I do have to point out that this isn't about guns in general. I grew up with (and still keep in touch with) some friends who owned guns and hunted. They were very responsible and took it seriously as part of their culture. It is folks like this who are on our side. My buddy down in FL buys about six guns a year, and is very pro-gun reform. Not my thing, personally, but I know he is a reasonable guy and he doesn't feel the need to be able to shoot off the obscene amount of bullets I am referencing. Liberals have to admit that the right to own guns exists, you can't take that right away. In fact, there are plenty of armed liberals.(See the Gun Toting Liberal Blog, for example.) It just has to be reasonably balanced so it doesn't unnecessarily violate the safety of society as a whole.

Just wanted to make that point!

Never ! my goodness. Heavy weaponry used in anger against neighbors? or people who are angry at another without self control?

How many people do you know who keep a heavy weapon "handy"?

The Sandy Hook/Newtown murder is about a mentally ill person who was totally immersed in internet and video violence doing mass murder, a failing mental health system, and an incompetent parent.

And that incompetent parent should not have had access to an assault weapon. Thanks for making our point for us!

I do, however, realize Gun Control is only one piece of the puzzle. The mental health issue definitely looms large here. Currently in America, it's very hard for these sick people to get help until after they've already done damage. We need to change that.

LOL, most of the liberals I know and love have far greater anger issues than the conservatives I know. They are for more self righteous and obnoxious, too, and much more interested in forcing others to their will. Funny how your friends are "reasonable" because they agree with you....
It's easy to see why most 20th century dictators had socialist tied to their names.

Also, I don't give a flying Fig what the modern concensus is. Democracy is mob rule, and I'm quite prepared to be the only correct person in the room and to oppose the tyranny of the majority.

And you have failed to address the subject of vigilantes that you raised earlier. I'd appreciate an answer. But take your time, I won't be back until late tonight.

"You have the tools for it!"

After he killed his mother to get to it. Wait! Ban murder!

I bet a gun ban will work as well as the drug war. Unless you are a cartel member, then the administration will give you American rifles.

Right, but uuuggghhh....he couldn't have used the gun on her if she hadn't had it. Isn't your theory that she could have used it to protect herself? That kind of goes back to what I was saying about if you have a gun in your home....

...oh Nevermind.

So what you (and many like you) are saying, is that you're fully prepared to use violence against your fellow citizens if they disagree with you on this subject, while I am proposing you get to keep your guns but that this freedom must have responsible limits.

Now who is the radical one again? (Hint: It was a rhetorical question.)
