What about Chelo's ? they're going strong. Can't remember if the Chelo's on Newport Av. is still there or not. I avoid Pawtucket whenever I'm up there.
I believe the one on Newport Ave. is still there (think it's actually in E.P.?)
Now that I think about it, I'd say Modern or Doherty's are the best bets (can't really go wrong with either). The OP should stay as close to the hotel as possible as it's so easy to get lost around there and as others have pointed out, you don't want to wind up in the wrong part of town.
Or, they could simply take Rt. 95 North, get off at Rt. 1 Attleboro exit and find several good places near the Emerald Mall. Panera Bread is over there near Marshall's, there is a Pub 99, and the Hearth and Kettle on Rt. 1. (The Modern Diner is good too, it's a landmark which is on the Historic Register.)
Hearth and Kettle is closed!

Reason: off topic
Newport Ave. in Pawtucket is full of chain restaurants and a few mom and pops, but you're looking at 5 miles away or so. Not sure how close to the hotel you want to stay. I still think there may be a restaurant onsite, but their website doesn't show one, so not 100% sure.
Thank you for all your help. I am surprised that this is a less then desirable area. I am seeing a specialist in Pawtucket and I guess because he charges 500 dollars for the initial apt I would think he would pick a nice area to be in. We will stay close to the hotel for restaurant choices. Trust me my mom and I even with GPS are direction challenged. The Modern Diner and Dohertys sounds good. I mean it is really not big deal as it is only one day and we could eat fast food but just thought it would be nicer to go to a regular restaurant. Thank you again

The Smithfield Ave. Chelo's would also be a good option, right off Rt. 95 So. I worked at the one on Newport Av. a few years during college; weekends and a few nights here and there. Getting out at 1:00 a.m. after cleaning up, going home and counting tips until 2:00 a.m. Don't know how I did it. Hahaha, that's when the Darlton Theatre was a cash cow for us on the weekends.
Chelo's has been consistently good all these years.
I agree that Chelo's is good and one of the places I miss in RI. I like the one by the old six bridges in Providence.
Gregg's is also good, but I think the closest one near the OP is the one on North Main Street a few miles away.
DOHERTY'S!! Or Sullivan's public house. Favorites of mine, my parents AND grandparents!
