Massachusetts governor Baker is making a pitch to steal Hasbro from Rhode Island. Our governor and the rest of the state pols need to make sure Hasbro stays in the state. Rhode Island doesn't need another lose.
I get why Gov. Baker would want to lure another HQ to Boston (let's face it, it'd be Boston or nothing at all, not even Worcester), but man, I'd love to see them invest solidly in downtown Providence. I know it's tough to stomach Pawtucket losing another asset, but I think revitalization starts from the center and work outward. If downtown Providence builds up its workforce, Pawtucket benefits. I hope that's what happens. I'm sure watching Fane get shot down for aiming high doesn't help with Hasboro, but Providence would make sense for them.

My fear is we'll be outmanoeuvred by a state, not only with more to offer, but with a better class of leadership. Poor Pawtucket. Unfortunately, bad news tends to snowball. Corporations want their world headquarters in locations considered winners - in categories Pawtucket can't compete with.

I hope not. I'd have no problem with an HQ from, say, Buffalo relocating to Boston; but there doesn't seem to be much sense in poaching from a neighbor like Providence. Our metros overlap and what's good for one is generally good for the other. Hasbro expanding in Providence/Pawtucket is good for the region as a whole, and even better for metro Providence. I'm fine with PVD and BOS competing for an outside company (like what happened with GE), but trying to lure one from the other isn't great.

Didn't I give you people a heads up on this months ago? Kiss Hasbro goodbye! This is what happens when you run your state into the ground. Let's review for those who haven't been paying attention: Sky high taxes, crumbling infrastructure and an underskilled and undereducated workforce. The Kryptonite trifecta to business. And a bankrupt capital city to boot. And it's only gonna get worse. And due respect to Irfox, smart as he is, it makes PERFECT sense to poach from Providence. This is business not charity. We're in a 50 state race and it's no holds barred. If you people don't get your house in order relative to Massachusetts and Connecticut, there won't be anything left to GET in order.
