Sorry but I disagree. Worcester is too spread out. It doesn't belong in this conversation.
The slums of Worcester have a lot in common with the slums of Providence, far more similar than the Boston slums are to Providence (which still do have a "little" in common).
Boston is closer to 4X the population of Providence.
Murders in 2021:
Boston -- 37
Providence -- 22
How's that for context, Independent Man?
Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport tend to have more shootings than Providence. Northern section of Hartford last year had more shootings that entire city of Providence.
The trend I see with some cities nationwide this year crime rate is lowest since 1970s but shootings and homicides increase.
Hartford 32 with 156 shooting victims it down from 204 same time period last year
New Haven 25 with 103 shooting victims
Bridgeport 22 with 119 shooting victims
Waterbury 11 with 56 shooting victims
"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are investigating after they say two men were stabbed inside a hotel. According to a report, the incident happened at the Graduate Hotel on Dorrance Street around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, police say they found two men, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, inside room 842 with stab wounds in their mid sections. The victims were taken to the hospital to be treated for their wounds and at last check, were in in stable condition. Police say there were several other people in the room as there was a small birthday party taking place. During the party, a few of the people began to argue, then one unidentified man apparently called or texted friends. Shortly after, there was a knock at the door and when the door was opened several men rushed in and a disturbance took place and that’s when the victim’s were stabbed. Police say the suspects took off from the scene before they arrived."
