"According to a police report, an employee told officers he heard shots come from the men's bathroom. Shortly after, he saw a man immediately leaving. When officers arrived, they "conducted a protective sweep of the club" and those inside were patted down for weapons, read the report. Police said they found at least one shell casing on the floor. After watching the club's surveillance video, police described the person who left as a Black man who was wearing a sweatshirt and black jeans. The man was seen with "the hood pulled over his head and tied around his face" and getting into a silver four door sedan on Harris Avenue, said police."
Boston has over 3.5 times the population of Providence.
Of course. So, Boston's stat must compare particularly well with other large cities. Arguably, the better comparison for Providence would be in the other small New England cities nearer its population. That's where the context brings additional meaning to the terrible numbers. Perhaps, our 2 ace crime reporters would do better to bring their hair on fire to those city data forums?
I'd say that the closest and most relevant comparison for Providence is Worcester, MA. In 2020, the last full year reporting, Worcester with a population of 185,000 recorded 9 murders and Providence with a population of 179,000 recorded 18. Hard to understand why you people are so defensive about crime statistics. Especially so, since this is primarily a relocation forum. I'm guessing it's mostly down to insularity and insecurity.
