Hi all, we are looking to relocate from NY. My husband wants to move to TN but I like VA. He thinks parts of Midlo remind him of LI and he doesn't want that , it's driving me crazy because I like that.

My MAIN priority is schools, my husband's is LAND. We would like a few animals including 1 or 2 horses so we want at least 1 acre. I am planning another road trip soon. Any areas I should go to specifically? I will be looking for a teaching job and him a truck driving job. I have no clue what our salaries or budgets will be, all I know is we are coming with nothing basically we lost our shirts here in NY.
Any help or info is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank you!!!!

Good schools with land is a tough find. You can easily get one or the other with a decent budget. And teachers are not well paid in Virginia. Lots of teachers with 10+ years of experience make < $50 k.

Hanover, would be my thought. Goochland would be cheaper in places, but schools not as good

I agree with him, much of midlothian looks like the commuter suburbs of long Island.

Hanover has good schools if you are in Mechanicsville (which to me is a cheap version of Midlothian). If you have land in Hanover, the school assignments aren't great and I'm not sure I'd agree they are better than Goochland.

Chesterfield may be your best bet for good schools and finding some land as you go south in the county (out of the more populated suburbs).

See map http://mychesterfieldschools.com/wp-...dary%20Map.pdf

As you go far out on Rt. 360 south of Richmond (out toward Winterpock and the Richmond Metro Zoo) you get into some areas where land can be found. This area goes to Cosby High School which is very high rated.

The Matoaca high school region may also have some areas you can get some land to your property.

The other areas of Chesterfield are either not as good a schools (to the East side) or more populated (to the West side)

I didn't realize hanover schools had that much variation, though it isn't a shock either of course.

The people I know in goochland don't have much good to say about the schools. Nor much bad either, in fairness, but the rep is "fine"

My first thought was Hanover and Chesterfield.
