It's hard to find a job just about anywhere in this country. What's your point? Rochester's unemployment rate is lower than many places.

Love that area... but that's about all Rochester has to offer. In philly, or pittsburgh, there are multiple pockets of areas like Park Ave, not just 1.

The reality is, Rochester's unemployment rate is at 8.2%, while the national average is about 9.4%.

Rochester is doing fine compared to the rest of the country.

And why are you comparing much larger cities like Philadelphia to Rochester? Maybe next I should compare Rochester to Utica.

great another love it or hate it thread....can we just agree that some love it here and some hate it here? No place is perfect yet there is an unprecedented group of posters who love to bash this area...move along like a storm cloud and rain on some one else's parade ok?

Now, back to living......

While I'd prefer Rochester to Philly, I agree. I see comparisons here of Rochester to Boston. I mean, really, is there any real comparison between Rochester and major U.S. cities? The only real-world, rational comparisons are to similarly-sized metros (or even some smaller ones).

Wow, for some reason I have a hard time believing Chicago and LA are down that far.

It is based on the ratio of job postings versus to those unemployed supposedly.

Talking I love Rochester

This is pretty amusing to me. I just wanted to see what people were saying about Rochester on here and came across this. I am an Army brat who has lived all around the country and Germany. I moved to Rochester on my own 5 years ago, purchased a beautiful house and made the most wonderful connections and friends ever. Rochester nightlife is great, though it's not NYC, but then, I dont like paying $20 just to walk through the door anyway. Rochester has such an active "day" time, that I think most people enjoy rather than going out to bars and drinking on a random Tuesday. I've never been so fit and in shape as I was while I lived in Rochester. I've enjoyed many Friday and Saturday nights out downtown though, which is part of what I'll miss most now living near NYC, believe it or not. I guess it all depends what you're looking for, but to bash a city based on it's lack of jumping gay bars on a Tuesday night is ridiculous. And the fact that someone thinks SYRACUSE is better just shows how little their opinion can be taken seriously. I cant say enough good things about Rochester after living there for 5 years and truly experiencing all that it has to offer- ESPECIALLY WEGMANS!!!
