Hey, don't, are u enjoying this,

Around Noon, earlier today Jun 27, 2021

Sacramento 78F

Seattle 95F - and legitimately humid, dew point 65F. All that water surrounding Seattle ain't doing it any justice, just making it worse.
Portland 95F - and legitimately muggy, dew point 60F

Phoenix 109F

When Sacramento is 95F its dew point is almost always well below 55F, pleasant and comfortable, rarely rarely, if ever, muggy.

Dew Point Comfort Scale
Pleasant: less than 55F
Comfortable: 56-60F
Getting Sticky- 61-65F
Uncomfortable: 66-70F
Oppresive: 71-75F
Miserable:76F and higher

114 hottest temp for downtown Sacramento
115f is the hottest ever for sac executive airport
Not sure what the hottest temp at sac international is.

113-114f is the hottest temp for the new airport in Fresno.
115f for the old airport(1905 record?!)

117f is the hottest recorded temp at the Vegas airport

Will portland topple these records? We'll be finding out very soon

The Portland Airport officially hit 116°F shortly after 5pm this evening making this the warmest temperature on record. This breaks yesterday's warmest temperature on record of 112°F. 3 days ago the warmest temperature on record was 107°F set twice in Aug '81 & once in Jul '65.

Hotter than any airport temp in sac and Fresno(probably bako, too)

Cities aren't the only ones joining in the fun
91f in South lake Tahoe today
Hot tamale
That had to be warmer than shaver lake

Very intersting, good post!

But, do you see how "record temps" are such a distraction in characterizing what the weather/climate is primarily like in a certain place.

Because of these latest records, we can always point to how HOT Portland is and even hotter than Sacramento or Fresno, but we know that's not true most of the time.

And we can now say its in the "triple digits" all the time in Portland, which is not true for either Portland or Sacramento.

Which leads me to reporting on and dwelling upon the "high temp" in Sacramento. Which is, also, not an accurate and comprehensive portrayal of how comfortable a typical Sacramento summer day is, in this case, because of the 30-40 degree difference between and high and low (diurnal) temps in Sacramento. It may have been a high of 90F in Sacramento but it was as low as 58F earlier and all morning long and most of the afternoon it was comfortable, really for only 1/2 hour it might have felt a little too warm in the direct sun, but shortly thereafter it was very comfortable for the rest of the daylight hours and into the night. A high of 90F in Sacramento is comfortable and doable, 90F in SF and Seattle is hell on earth because of unfavorable dew points, humidity levels, and unfavorable diurnal ranges.

Hey Chim, with your extensive interest in Sacramento weather, have you kept track at all about how often we go above and below the high average temperatures?

I've been out here since mid 2006, and it seems to me that at least for the May through October periods of each year, we seem to exceed the "average" highs far more often, and to a greater degree, than we do being below the average highs.

Just wondering if you've got any data concerning those historical records for high daily temps.

115 and 117 in Salem, or. As well

Humidity was bad in Portland, but even worse near Seattle. Crazy to think that Portland will likely have a worse two day stretch this summer than Fresno. The 111(2x) didn't feel that bad here because of clouds(high elevation) and a breeze. I don't think any deaths were reported from it.
Portland also had a terrible ice storm this year. It tore up their infrastructure, ppl were furious. It sometimes pays off to be part of the Southwest, things tend to be more stable around here.

Here's a chart for you, chim. Enjoy(edit: Spokane will be moving up soon)
