Hello all! Sorry about the mishap with the draft being posted, I now hope to actually finish it LOL.
I want to compare these cities because I am making the move to California, however I'm not sure where I want to be. I am a 34 year old man, with a wife, a three yr. old and a 10 month old. I am currently living in Downtown Chicago.
Things to consider:
- I will be making a high salary; somewhere between 350K-400K in all of the available jobs, however I still would like to now where the most affordable housing is.

- Schools are a huge deal, as I grew up in a town with many great school options, public schools would be preferred.

- I have visited San Diego, however that's all out of the three.

- The Sacramento job is in Roseville

- The Orange County job is in Orange (The city.)

-The San Diego job is in La Jolla/Carmel Valley Area.

Thank you in advance!

Of the places you mentioned Sacramento has the most affordable housing. I'm old with grown kids so I know nothing about schools, sorry!

Sac is by far the most affordable. I believe Orange County is more expensive than SD but both are pretty high overall, especially compared to Sac. But with a $350-400K salary you obviously will be able to afford any of these areas.

The most expensive suburbs usually have the best schools in CA. If you were to live in the La Jolla/Carmel Valley area of SD where your job is, the schools in that area are VERY good.

This is about the 3rd or 4th Sacramento V (insert name of random city) V San Diego thread. Beginning to think they are all posted by the same person.

La Jolla and it's not even close. Don't even consider Sac if you can afford to live in La Jolla.

One wonders where OP works.

Yes OC is considerably more expensive than San Diego...not that that'd be a problem for OP with his salary.

Homes Sold Median Sale Prices

Los Angeles $460,000
Orange $562,500
Riverside $287,500
San Bernardino $236,000
San Diego $435,000
Ventura $462,500

Source

Apparently the source data source does not track Sacramento in the same way.
