Looks like ESPN shelved a potentially controversial documentary that was scheduled to air about the Kings new arena and Kevin Johnson. Someone managed to see the documentary anyways and states his opinions on it.

I'm glad I live in the county and Johnson is not my mayor. And it has nothing to do with those allegations in the past.
Sacramento elected a basketball player as mayor.
Is basketball experience the most desirable quality for someone to manage a $950 million city budget?
Given all the problems in Sacramento, what does Johnson focus his energy on and convince the city council to invest huge sums of money in?
A basketball arena.
Is that really the best this town can do?

Maybe you need to head to the grid to see there is much more going on downtown than the Arena. And a good Mayor has the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time. Just because KJ spent time on the Basketball arena doesn't mean he cant move on other items to improve the city (mass transit, housing initiative, railyards, minimum wage hike, etc).

I'm aware that downtown is a livelier, upbeat place. But I see that more of a private sector thing than KJ's handprint. Will the Arena be enough to turn around K street where others have failed? Time will tell.

A lot more private money is going into and around the arena than the $255 million contribution from the city. Overall it's one of the better private/public Arena partnerships. Have you looked at the financials of the new Bucks Arena? Our deal is way better than theirs.

Another city squanders an even larger amount of public funds and that's supposed to make Sacramento's mistake look better? Sorry, but there is no justification for spending $255 million of public funds (25% of the city's annual budget) on a frivolous expense. I've got no problem with professional sports but they are way overrated as economic stimulators. But, like I said, I live in the county so I'll just SMH from here.

There's also no justification in downtown Sacramento being a complete dump and laughingstock of an entire state. Development within downtown is 20-30 years behind similar sized cities (Portland, Denver, San Diego) thanks to people like you. Well done.
