Considering that the original poster is basically making a joke based on a portion of the male anatomy, I wouldn't say it's all that square.

For a "cowtown" we're awful short on cows--just the one at Ruland's on 16th and the one in front of Riverside Clubhouse.

I have ALWAYS hated "Sac" for exactly the same reason the OP is insinuating. LOL!! I always say Sacto or Sacramento.

LOL about Old Sac!! I never even thought about it!

I have always thought "Sac-town" sounded pretty cool. I have heard many folks from Sacramento call it that too, including many sports players.

Sac-town > Cowtown, I know the real story behind "cowtown", but to a person who doesn't and with the absence of cows these days, it just sounds like you have a bunch of large women roaming the lands.

*Sacramento ladies - I know this is not true

Oh and the worst names I have heard Sacramento called were: Suckramento and Ball-Sac-town...

Don't forget the cows and sheep who work for the state and over-run the K Street Mall every lunch hour.

Don't forget that Ruland's cow has reproduced!

When I hear of 'Sac', 'Frisco', or 'Cali'....I just think of small town people trying to make somewhere else sound cool - like they have some special lingo, they know somewhere else so well, they call it by a nickname.

I lived in San Francisco for a year, and never heard of anyone ever use 'Sac', 'Frisco', or 'Cali'.

Actually, when I see and read 'Sac' all over these threads...I feel like I'm back in small town in Michigan...and a little rural High School...'the Big D'...i.e. Detroit...this kinda High School like nicknames I only heard in HIgh School, and never heard any real adult ever say. Anyways, the abbreviations make me think of that. (I don't associate the posters with those stereotypes though). I just get a strong feeling of Sacramento having a lot of small town people moving there and using 'Sac' as the big city they are now in.

I thought "Cowtown" came from when Phil Jackson called Sacramento "just a little Cow-town..".

Head coach of the Lakers. He's the reason Kings fans ring cowbells during games.
