Governor Huntsman is trying to improve spending per pupil because Utah lacks high-quality teachers due to low pay. So you would probably take a large paycut if you were to move to Salt Lake. The situation is supposed to be improving. From what I know the Jordan District and Park City District are the best bet for high pay, but I have no idea if they are hiring.

We just moved up here from Friendswood in July ( thanks to the Army). Traffic is much better to travel here- easy to get around. but I do miss TexMex & good margaritas
As far as teaching- you may want to look into some of the charter schools for a job. My sons go to a Spanish emersion school & they have several others around from what I have heard. ( North Davis Prep Academy is one)

We'll be here for a 3 year tour & then "think" we may try to get San Antonio next round. ( ...but I really enjoyed Austin also).

For the 4 months we've been here- I really have found lots to do, love the friendliness of our neighbors & slower pace. More family oriented, and the newscast has so much a "safer" feel if you have kids in the room listening- nowhere near the reports we'd hear in Harris Co. or even Galveston Co

Good luck with the move!!!! (It was a beautiful drive up here also)

Utah doesn't lack high-quality teachers! I'm not even sure where that statement comes from. Certainly they are under-paid, but that is a common lament of all teachers, regardless of their state. However, Utah is not lacking high-quality teachers, quite the contrary, given the high student to teacher ratio and low pay, they do extremely well.

I saw a video where Governor Huntsman discussed Utah's inability to secure quality teachers because of very low pay compared to the rest of the United States. Utah's test scores also prove the point.
