In the past this forum gave me some great housing information, so after finding a wonderful house, with your help, now I'm in search of furniture to fill it up. Everything is bigger in Texas, which explains my huge empty great room. Any suggestions of affordable large scale furniture? Thanks!

Salvation Army at Flores and South Alamo has good furniture. If your budget is bigger, you can make a trip to any of the local furniture stores for new furniture. Is there a budget? Is there some piece your looking for in particular?

We've really found the offerings at Haverty's to be a good fit for us.

Try to check the wood when you buy it, I spent about $800 on a sofa and a love seat and now it keeps on making noise like if it's made out of cheap wood.

Check out the actual furniture. Have some knowledge about good quality before hitting the stores because a good name brand may not be the best one.
Seems like Dopo was a victim of this just like me!

I've been wondering about furniture, too. My stuff is 10 years old, so it's time for new furniture. But with 3 kids and 2 dogs, I want something that won't cost an arm and a leg. I'll buy better quality furniture when I'm old, for now I just don't want to freak out of milk gets spilled on my $3,000 couch! lol. Rooms To Go seems to have a ton of mediocre quality furniture, at mediocre prices. I wasn't impressed with Lacks. Pottery Barn stuff looks nice (where are all the Pottery Barn Kids, BTW? My kids need new bedrooms!). Other than that, I'm clueless. There are a ton of furniture stores around here! It's like all people do here is eat out, buy furniture, and go to Home Depot, lol.

It would be nice to find something handmade locally. Is that even possible?

Sorry I'm not more help. I have noticed a gajillion stores on 410 near Lackland, and 1604 by Fiesta heading towards Stone Oak. Maybe check there?

When you buy your sofa, make sure it has reinforced corner blocking and that the frame is solid hardwood. 8-way hand-tied support is very nice, but isn't necessary for a good sofa. Try to find a sofa manufacturer that has a good warranty on all parts, including the cushions. Down-wrapped foam are the best as far as cushions go, but if you can't afford it, the rule is, the firmer the longer the cushions will last. Get your furniture Scotchgarded at least once every three years, and make sure your fabric you choose is steam-cleanable.

I agree with TexasRedneck about Haverty's. There is the 18 month 0% interest (as long as it is entirely paid by then) option, as is true for a lot of furniture stores.
