SAPD: Man fatally struck by car while darting across Loop 410 | kens5.com San Antonio

It seems like these stories are becoming more familiar lately. What are these folks thinking? This is dangerous for all parties involved.

I posted about this awhile back but was focusing on the kids doing the same thing.

I no longer drive on 410 to work due to the annoying construction going on right now but that is another story.

Anyways, I would see kids darting across 410 from 410/plesanton to 410/culebra. Makes me mad because it is a really dumb thing to do. Probably worse right now since school is out which is another reason for me to avoid 410 right now.

Until they finish the construction at least, I am driving through downtown for now.

It's very common in that area and I've had to dodge quite a few on 90 and a lot of the streets around Lackland. Not sure why this is an issue, but it sure is! You'd think people would be smart enough to stay off highways and the middle of busy streets, but then again this is a special type of stupid we're talking about...
My son used to do security for that Las Palmas shopping center off Gen. McMullen and he would constantly have to get the police to get drunk idiots that were asleep on the street; as in the middle of the road! Like I said, it's a special kind of stupid around here for some people... and alcohol is a huge factor.

WOW!!! I do remember a kid getting struck and killed waiting for a school bus near 410/Ingram on the access road awhile back. I did not know this was an issue, but like ya'll say it takes a special person to run across a highway or fall asleep in the middle of a road. So how do you curtail this problem? Razor wire fences along stretches of highway through town?

A guy died a few years ago because he got hit by a car while he was sleeping on 1604.. I think it was around Blanco. Can't even imagine how dumb you have to be for that to sound like a good idea and I've been pretty messed up before.

Geez! WTF!!??!! That is beyond me and I cannot even imagine someone doing that. Well, 1604 and 410 are loops similar to racetracks. Maybe they should string up fences like they do in NASCAR keeping pedestrians/drunks/lunatics off the highways while safely keeping us in. Safely used loosely there.

True, but what if you're the sober motorist that just happens to work at night and you run over or hit one of these fools and kill them? Then your life is totally jacked up just because some idiot had to have their cheap beer and couldn't handle it.

and people wonder why I hate drunks...

Ummm....where did you get the info that the guy that was hit was drunk - or are you making an assumption? Nothing written or reported on the clip mentioned alcohol as a contributing factor. Stupid doesn't need alcohol to perform......

I had to slam my brakes once on Castroville by the Las Palmas Shopping Center. A teenager decided to cross the street between a bunch of cars sitting at a red light and I was making a left turn when he dashed out. I know someone whose son was killed while walking on the highway.
