We're not talking about forgetting to pick up a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread from the store, jury duty is a civic responsibility of all citizens and the basis of our justice system!

But I am sure all of those who do anything and everything to get out of jury duty would have a different opinion of it if it were their destinies that were on the line!

From OP post I understand that "just show up as scheduled" is not possible, because the jury duty was scheduled for TODAY.
"Staying honest in life is the right thing to do. You'll sleep much better" is not going to help either. OP didn't ask for moral instruction.

If my destiny was on the line, I would rather have a jury made up of volunteers who want to serve, not a bunch of people who are all p****d off, worrying about missing work and $$ and want to get it all over with ASAP.

Please, give me a break...OP had already received enough feedback regarding this matter. Then some posters advised disregarding the notices which I see as irresponsible and a mistake if it was not addressed promptly. Thus my comments...I'd rather that her son doesn't have to go through this again and just do what most of us do. Stay honest. This is a no brainer.

Yeah, good luck with that!

Seriously, what quality of juror do you think you'd get if it was a "volunteer" system?

First: I don't think he tried to do anything and everything to get out of jury duty.
Second: our justice system sucks, but not because someone forgot to show up for a jury duty.

Jury is intended to be an impartial panel capable of reaching a verdict. In a perfect world.
The fact is that jury "selection" is nothing else than trying to wind up with favorably inclined people and "deselect" (get rid of ) those who are leaning against from the start.
