Paka--contact Heart of Texas Lab Rescue. hotlabrescue.org We'd do it in a heartbeat, but I'm afraid right now, we just can't afford doggie surgery. Trying to get ourselves back on our feet now that hubby is home. Sounds like a sweet pup.

Someone on here had luck with San Antonio Pets Alive. ADL and the San Antonio Humane Society are often crowded and will only take young puppies. With ACS, you won't know if the dog will get out alive.

Thanks for the alternative...seems the HOTLAB does not take the animals without spay/nutering/heartworm negative and proof of ownership...well, DUH!!! Guess if the poor boy had it that good he would not need us to rescue him. Anyway, will certainly try the other location...any other "fall back" info most appreciated...sure hate to see the little guy suffer out there if there is an alternative for him....If someone is willing, I am even willing to drive down their myself and get him BEFORE our son could bring him home in a little over a week...

Wow, really? That's crazy...they rescue labs from shelters all the time! I don't understand that.
There's another group--SNIPSA...they may be able to help.

No...son is out of reception range in one of the fields...I have left a msg. So far I have not found much in the way of help here..seems most of these places don't take unless they are healthy, young and without issues...the one shelter focuses on those animals that are next in line for kill schedule...admirable work to be sure, but not much help in this situation.

The only other thing I can think of, is maybe to call some vet's in the area to see if they could fix him up cheap or free. Maybe the story will pull on their heartstrings enough.
