Sounds like that might have been Pioneer House.

I remember Mario's off Fredericksburg rd. Perhaps this is not the same location you are speaking of but it was a pretty good restaurant. DiMassi's buffet is there now.

Fratelli's on I-10 and Callaghan
Tom's Ribs

Both had a rapid decline in quality and folded.

Mammy's Cafeteria on Donaldson across Fredericksburg Road from the Woodlawn Theatre. Before seeing a movie at the Woodlawn, we always ate at Mammys.

Picadilly Cafeteria at Wonderland.

The original Biga (on Locust next door to original Paesanos-since torn down) and Chez Ardid (Woodlawn/San Pedro) buildings are both still there...as law offices

The location of the Mario I remember was near the Market Square area.
Close to IH 35 downtown. I have no accurate street location.

There was Karam’s on Zarzamora street on the West side. At the time it was
a very tiny place, but the cheese enchiladas were delicious. The closest to
a soft delicious corn tortilla today are the ones I buy at Sanitary Tortilla Co.
located on Urban Loop downtown by IH 35.

Refried beans from Taco Kitchen were my favorite.
They have closed for good.
Teka Molino on St. Mary’s were also very good.
They also have shut down.
The one on San Pedro or Rittiman Rd. are good.

Beef or Chicken Puffy tacos either here or Henry’s
are great.

I’m not suggesting that these are the best in San Antonio.
Just saying that these are what I enjoy the most.

As a kid I remember a place called Sambos I used to love going there. I also miss Rally’s.

Pizza Inn
Fargo’s Pizza
Mr Gatti’s
Was there a GW Franks or something like that? There was a place off Ingram Rd that had an arcade in the middle and you could get like 4 dogs for a buck.
Not a restaurant but I have good memories of the Callaghan twin movie theater
