San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department

Read up on what each park has to offer. Some are great for hiking, others for walking and/or biking. Some just for play and picnics. McAllister Park has a very large sports complex as well.

The web site is lacking in my opinion.....but the parks are not.

I still like Casa Rio and have been going for decades. Paesanos is great, just not mexican food. You can go down the river walk and look for Arneson River Theatre. On one side of the river it has the stage and the other side has tiered seating with steps leading to arched entries in the wall at the top. Go through the entry to visit La Villita and visit all the little shops. Definitely something different and fun. You might get to see the glass blower at work. The bus to the botanical gardens, Brackenridge Park, the Zoo and the Witte Museum is great too. This has been fun to read. Sometimes you forget all there is to do in your own backyard.
