I would second that. It was a dumb mistake, but not a criminal one. I guarantee you their view of the situation no longer mirrors some of the posters in this thread and they have learned a lesson. They'll probably come out of it for the better.

Jag....lets back up. I didn't say they should change the punishment because it was on the news. SAPD nor anyone else can control what's put out there publicly. The fact remains that it was out there, and the SAPD would have appeared apathetic about their standards if they didn't respond. It's no different than any celebrity, politician or public figure that gets caught in inappropriate behavior contrary to the position they are holding....as was the case here. Generally statements are issued as to what is being done to not allow it in the future. As Sapphire mentioned....the situation has been addressed. It's over.
