Check out Silver Lakes, a planned community built around two man made lakes in Helendale. It is about 15 minutes from VV, down National Trails Hwy. Easy commute and a great community.

If you like to golf, their golf course is beautiful and there is a lot of good fishing in the lakes. If you rent, the owner has to pay the association fees, so you get all the amenities for free. They also have a pool, gym, clubhouse, stables, tennis courts, parks, and a RV storage lot that you have free access to.

Edufritas,

So did you end up taking the job? Where did you go and how did you like it? I am in the same situation now. I would appreciate some comments if possible.

Anywhere down the hill (opposite side the mountain) would be a somewhat long commute. Especially with the construction going on the 215. Maybe try Apple Valley?

It depends on how far you're willing to drive...

Apple Valley is somewhat nice. It's a neighboring community to Victorville.
I've also heard decent things about Hesperia and Oak Hills. If you're not adverse to a 30-- 45 minute commute, then go down to Rancho Cucamonga. It's nice and I would do it if I was in your position and could afford it. If you want "mountain living", there's Wrightwood, Phelan and Crestline.

Do yourself a huge favor and avoid Adelanto and most of Victorville though. You'll be happy you did.

We live in Apple Valley, just bought our first home here, though, so I'm partial. I would go Big Bear! Plenty of outdoors fun, hiking, fishing, snow sports! It's an hour drive though, but since you were mentioning places with similar drive time, I thought I would throw it out there. Good luck and congrats on the new position!
