Hello! My husband and I are moving to the Riverside(city) area in about three months, and are in looking to live in the Riverside area--small town, city, whatever, really doesn't matter. We need an area that is safe, not too outrageously priced, and a good place to start a cosmetology business. I have been looking in Temecula and Murrietta, but have heard bad things about Perris. I would like for my husband to not have to commute an inordinate amount of time, as he will be working in Riverside. I am not all that concerned about having to drive to shop and things like that--we are from the midwest--we're used to it!

Research the area code 92508

Orangecrest, and Woodcrest.

Stay away from Perris,Moreno Valley, San Bernadino.

ok--i've heard some bad things about perris. I am freaked out by the cost of homes out there!! Is there a little town that has affordable housing and has low crime? We have three little ones, and I am really worried about them.

Check out Corona there are both newer areas and older areas. This a growth area as the location is close to the OC and the starting point into Riverside and/or SB. I know several people moving out towards Yucapia and like it.

ok, Corona is a great place to live, but if you work anywhere near downtown Riverside the commute will inhale deeply and rapidly.

South Moreno Valley is a great place to live in the 92551 or 92555 zip codes

If working in downtown Riverside, check out Mission Grove and OrangeCrest. Canyon Crest is good too. Moreno Valley is fine (Sunnymead Ranch, Hidden Springs, Box Springs, Moreno Valley Ranch...this is the list of good neighborhoods there). Perris around May Ranch is a good place, other than that Perris is not that nice.

Default Menifee and Temecula

Menifee, Murrieta and Temecula are the best areas....Corona is also nice. Temecula is the first that comes to mind as far as "good schools" and a great place to have a hair salon. There are several nice salons in Temecula - I'm not sure if that is what you want or not. Menifee has more affordable housing, but Temecula and Murrieta have better schools I believe. Having grown up in the area I would say Temecula is the nicest if you can afford to work and live there....Menifee would have a better commute distance for your husband. Also Moreno Valley, Perris, and Riverside do not have good reputations - as far as people from Temecula are concerned. Not sure if that means anything.

I have heard that for homes in Perris, the Monument Ranch and the Villages of Avalon are nice.

Check out San Jacinto (92582) in the newer neighborhoods, especially north of Esplanade Ave and much of West of State Street. It is 20 minutes outside Perris and the same outside Moreno Valley.

Like Perris and Riverside, San Jacinto have pockets of nicer areas, so I would take a look around when you are looking for more reasonable housing.

Take a drive through the city of Riverside, there are some great homes and neighborhoods just east of the core, in and around Fairmont Park. I lived for short time close by and loved the ability to go the downtown core or catch the bus to UCR when I attended the school some time back.
