We live in AZ, but I took my wife and son to Mission bay for 3 days early in the summer. We had a blast and are ready to go back.

Last trip we stayed at the Blue Sea Lodge on the beach and it was fine. However, we are far from experts in San Diego and are very open to some input.

I would like to keep the budget for a room around $200 a night.

Thanks in advance.

I've recommended the Hilton on Mission Bay to friends with kids and they loved it.

If you liked Blue Sea Lodge, you will really like Pacific Terrace: Hotels in San Diego | Hotels in Pacific Beach | Pacific Terrace Hotel, San Diego, CA

Pacific Terrace is on the boardwalk about 3/4 mile north of Blue Sea Lodge. Here are some reviews:
Pacific Terrace Hotel - Pacific Beach - San Diego, CA

Pacific Terrace is probably a little more than $200 per nite but I hear they are running a 'buy 2 nites get 1 free' special.

If you want to try the La Jolla area, La Jolla Shores Hotel is right on the beach and offers a great family environment: The Official Web site of the La Jolla Shores Hotel located in La Jolla, California - Have your wedding on the beach
