I am relocating to San Diego north county later this year and am trying to decide between the Westwood Neighborhood or Rancho PQ. Westview High to me looks vastly superior to Rancho Bernardo as a high school.... Does anyone have any insight to whether this impression is true? I am mom to a "gifted" child so challenging schools are extremely important. Is there really much difference between the different Poway USD schools? Thanks in advance

Both are PUSD, so you can't really go wrong. I'd go Westview because RB is last on the list of PUSD high schools to get an overhaul that adds much more high-tech computer labs and whatnot. RB has the advantage of some more established extra-curriculars (sports), but unless your kid is a star baseball athlete, I wouldn't worry.

My $.02,

Mike

Academic wise, the main difference is in schedule. Westview runs on a quarter system vs. Rancho Bernardo which runs on a traditional semester system. The quarter system runs faster. You should decide whether this is a good thing or not for your child, you could argue that you might be sacrificing depth for speed, but you can gain more credits in the quarter system.
