Hi all,
I currently live in Sacramento, but my job is throwing around the idea of sending me to RB. I'm a Chicagoan, so I love cities and my wife loves the ocean, so SD might be a good fit for us. However there is no way I can afford to live in RB. I am only willing to spend $1200 or less. What are some nice areas within 35-40 minutes of RB?
I'll be looking for a 2 bedroom apartment, or house.
I'd like something near community colleges and good daycare.
I can deal with bad traffic, but i'd rather not.
Thanks for any help.

Thats not much to live on in SD. Maybe something in Escondido or San Marcos, but I thing your going to have to increase your limit.

Thanks,
I could do $1500, but I'd rather do something else with that cash. That would put me right at the 33% rule. I'm not even getting a pay pump to move, so its going to be a tight budget for me.
I've also been looking at Chula Vista. Is that too far from RB?

I wouldn't try to tackle the commute from Chula to RB... you will fight the Northbound 15 Miramar traffic in the mornings and southbound traffic through Mission Valley/I-8 interchange in the afternoon. But I think your bigger challenge will be finding a decent 2 BR anything for $1,200/mo. Even in less desirable areas, rents are high.

As stated that commute would be rough in a car. I drive from San Marcos to Mira Mesa 5 days a week and even though it's alot better than before, nothing beats not have to deal with the freeway. If your single which I didnt account for it's doable. If you have a family IMO that amount of Sq ft would not work for me. My first place was in Deerwood in RB and the rent was 1650 for a 1000 sq ft back in 05. This worked for me and the wife but later we found the more space is better. We later moved to a townhouse in Scripps Ranch. IMO renting a townhouse or house always end up being more bang for you buck.

Thanks Skeke, I really like the second place
Carmel Terrace

11540 WINDCREST LANE, SAN DIEGO, CA 92128

Map quest shows my just under 12 miles to work from there. My current commute is about 40mi each way. But there is zero traffic. It takes me about and hour or less. How bad in the morning commute in this area? And I drive a Prius, so the HOV lane is an option.
Whats the going rate for a townhouse Madekun?

It depends on the area and size of the house.
Try CL its where I found the best deals, and I've moved 3 times since 05.
If I remember correctly those places listed are a couple of exits away from the from the Bernardo Center and Camino Del Norte exits.

Escondido, San Marcos, what are other good ones?
Thanks

Scripps Ranch
Rancho Penaquitas(sp)
Carmel Mountain
Poway
Sabre Springs
Escondido
San Marcos
Mira Mesa
