From my basic knowledge, it originates in the desert and funnels through the mountain passes and gets hotter as it travels across land. By the time it gets across land it gains heat heading towards the ocean. It can get quite warm and be warmer than inland areas as I am sure you have noticed.

So as far as Mt Laguna, the winds are not hottest near origination. Elevation from the high pressure also appears to make it less susceptible to the Santa Ana conditions.

La Mesa was 103 yesterday and the day before. but the farther inland you got the cooler it seemed to be. My buddy in Alpine said it was in the 80's the last two days.

The winds heat up as they descend. so they get hotter as they travel from the mountains to the coast. It's called adiabetic heating, and it has to do with changing atmospheric pressures as the winds chage elevation.

You spoke too soon. Even though it was mostly cloudy today, it was still 90 degrees at my house. I went to the beach where the ocean is still warm enough to swim in

And at the end of the week, not only will it be warm due to a high pressure system but we will also get the monsoonal flow from the remnants of a tropical storm. So don't put those fans away.
