The company I work for here in El Cajon is moving to Kearny Mesa Monday (Aero Dr.). I currently live in El Cajon. I know that the 52 and 8 are both a mess during the commutes and I'm a 9-5 employee. I am trying to decide if the 8W to 805 N to Aero is my best commute option as far as traffic or 67N to 52W to 163S would be the best option. Or even alternatives to save time without going to far off the beaten path. Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one and depends on where in EC you live.

At that time of the morning I suggest going 8 to 15 to Aero. Pretty easy drive, not as much traffic as on 805. After 5 pm it's a different matter, because traffic on 15 to 8 is bunching up, so here's your alternative (works every time except if there's a game at Qualcom): Aero to Ruffin Road, then left (south, can't remember the name of the street, but it's at the end of Ruffin), then left at Qualcom to Friars Road to 8. But you still risk sitting in traffic on 8, so it's the evening commute that is going to be tough, all depending on where in El Cajon you live.

I live south of I-8 in East County - I don't face that choice every day, only when business takes me up to OC or LA once or twice a month. But every time I've experimented, the 52 has been worse . . .it's just that combination of lane drops and awkward merges at the 52/125, coupled with the the steep grade . . . not that 8-805 is any kind of picnic, but at least you feel you have some maneouvering room . . .

I live off of Washington and Magnolia. Right on it's sounding like I8 is the way to go. Also appreciate the shortcut/traffic avoider. Thanks guys.

The 52 east of the I15 is a nightmare at peak traffic times. I'd go with the I8 myself.

mission gorge to san diego mission rd to rancho mission, friars to mission village is another escape hatch if a wreck on the 8 or 15.

Here's another one, avoiding 52 and 8: Friar's to Mission Gorge, to Margerum or Jackson, to Navajo, to Fletcher, to Magnolia!

This^^^
Take the 52
The 67N to the 52 starts to thin out about 7:45 -8:00 So you will be fine with you commute
The 8 West becomes a mess and bottle necks around La mesa and college ave in the mornings.
Imo the 8,although it should be is just not as fast as the 52 that time of morning.

Well the 8 and 15 were both pretty messy this morning....lol but 105.3 had nothing good to say about the 52 either. Commuting sucks in San Diego period but I think my commute isn't too awful. Even with bumper to bumper traffic from Baltimore dr. all the way to the Aero dr off the 15 it took me 25 minutes from home, I can't complain. I'm going to miss my 2 mile commute up to Johnson Ave. though for sure LOL.
