Because no other city took the phrase before San Diego.

Ron Burgandy said "It's a known fact that San Diego is the greatest city in the history of mankind." But he also said that it was discoverd by the Germans, lol.

It's not "America's Finest City" anymore. It's now called "Enron by the Sea".

Actually San Diego has just as many "problems" as L.A. or San Francisco, it's just that the media (Union-Tribune) never reports anything negative about "Enron by the Sea". San Francisco is a much more livable, friendly, intellectual, politically-enlightened, beautiful city than San Diego.

San Diego is just an afterthought...

Any area that's away from Palmdale is great!
I lived in that dump for 27 years and in 1990 as i was moving away from there... the place was turning rotten! From what I hear it's WORSE now!

I'm extremely happy to be out of California PERIOD!

I disagree. I think San Diego is more beautiful-it looks more tropical because of all the plants that grow here, which would never grow in the foggy, cold climate of San Francisco.

That said, while there are a great many things about San Diego, it isn't America's Finest City. I would say Honolulu is (probably biased because it's my hometown), and if it was on the mainland, or closer to it, I think more people would agree with me

So happy that you need to come back here to troll locals to convince yourself?

Great username by the way, maybe you would prefer Birmingham. Or Iran.
