San Diego is one of the safest major cities. I wouldn't worry too much about getting " knocked out" by a random stranger.

Still, I wonder why "no charges were filed" against this guy. Seems strange.

I couldn't believe when i read it happened here. My same thoughts about no charges being filed. I thought the SDPD was on the ball here. One newscaster said it was because there were no witnesses. Him and his wife were not enough of a witness? Not enough details were given out on this case nor a description of the attacker so the public can beware.

SDPD certainly were on the ball, if they were able to identify the attacker at all. Unfortunately, the wife's testimony is very likely not going to be enough against some trumped-up alias. And neither the SDPD nor the prosecutor has enough budget to pursue cases that have high likelihood of failing.

As to why charges have not been filed yet, it's not strange and it definitely doesn't mean that charges won't be filed later on. When the police arrest someone on suspicion of committing a crime (which the article implies they did, since it says there were able to track him down. But was the suspect arrested? I can only assume) the police then must make a case for charges to be filed by the District Attorney's Office. This can take hours, or even years, depending on the circumstances. Sometimes, the police must make repeated efforts to show they have enough evidence that a crime occurred in order to convince the DA's office that charges are warranted. If the police arrested the suspect, and the wife was a witness to what happened, I'd say it's only a matter of time before battery or other suitable criminal charges are filed.

Encinitan,

I guess the confusion is that the article doesn't say that they arrested this guy. I'm not sure you can imply from what was written (the way it was written) that he got arrested?

I have many family and friends back east and it's been all over the news back there. Street Cred. Except there have been others who actually shot those who tried to knock them out. It's all stupid. I think it'll happen around the country because most people are lemmings. They see something on the news and think they'll try it. I don't think it being a huge problem in SD, more like a select few cases. In other cities, it could become a problem if these kids think they'll earn street cred for knocking out a stranger. And then you'll have others who will wind up shooting and killing one of these kids who try to knock them out. It's a lose-lose for everybody.

Honestly, San Diego has one of the lowest % of youths of any major city that would be likely to play knockout. You are unlikely to even see a black person in San Diego, much less be assaulted by one. More likely to be assaulted by a red-bull UFC wannabe white guy.

well - yes - but considering that the elder generation has been decrying the stupidity of the younger generation since basically the FIRST generation - its been a LONG slow decline.

speaking of which - since when has ssucker-punching someone and running away ever gotten someone street cred?. i mean, in MY day, you wanted cred, you drove with your lights off, chased down the first person to flash you, and murdered them. The young generation is such a disappointment
