Hello. Coming to visit this summer. Which hotel do you prefer. Westin Gaslamp or US Grant? Thanks!

I haven't stayed at the Grant but have at the Westin. I believe the Westin is nicer.

The US Grant is the only five star hotel in the Gaslamp, the Westin is nice but only a four star and is much more corporate, chain feeling. Both are Starwood but the US Grant is part of the Luxury Collection, a notch above Westin. If you have status in Starwood, you are more likely to score a suite upgrade at the US Grant. Enjoy!

I like authenticity therefor I'd go for the U.S. Grant as it is real and actually has historical value. BTW be sure to try out their Sunday Brunch and some of their classic cocktails.

The US Grant is directly across Broadway from the currently under constructions bigger, badder Horton Plaza (as in an actual plaza not the mall).

Therefore, while the construction is ongoing, maybe Gaslamp Westin. Afterwards, I would take the US Grant

Construction or no construction...there will be city noise regardless of what hotel you choose, so to me, noise wouldn't matter. I would stay at the US Grant. It was renovated a few years ago. I hear it is really nice...and is historic.

Very safe. Tourists tend not to like above Broadway (or East of Sixth Ave.) but other than a larger immediate transient population because of all the bus routes along Broadway it is a highly visible, patrolled and safe area.

I might stay at the Westin but definitely do Happy Hour at the beautiful bar at the US Grant.

We have kids. They will be 5 and almost 8 by the time of travel. Does that factor in? Not looking for hotel activities because we'll be at the Zoo, etc. Kind of just a stopping off point. We have Starwood points so that is why we are going with SPG brand hotels.
