Is commuting from Santa Ana to Poway 9-5 doable? I have read previous statements that improvements have been made on i5. Google and Bing maps estimate 1.3 hrs with traffic. To me that does not look bad considering for many in the region a hour commute is the typical.

I used to take the SNA(John Wayne Airport) once or twice a week and I lived in either the UTC or Del mar area. But it wasn't an every day commute and Orange County has some nightmare traffic at times. There are times it can take an hour just to get from San Clemente to Laguna Niguel. I never had a ton of issues going from OC to SD, but it was usually early early mornings or late at night.

When I first moved to SD years ago, I was seeing somebody who lived up in Huntington Beach and I lived in PB, worked in Little Italy. At one point I was going up there many times a week and heading to work from HB. Most of the time I got to work within about 60 minutes. Of course I wasn't going the speed limit and I left pretty early in the morning when there weren't many other cars on the road.

What does that 100K figure mean though? why would making a certain amount make it any more tolerable? Also... 100K is not a whole lot, would that amount really make something miserable tolerable?

Cmon, 6 figures is alot TO MOST PEOPLE and it certainly would sway most of our opinions on how far to travel. Would i do it for 100k, probably not but i would think long and hard versus a 70k a year job.

Does it make a difference if its from Irvine to Poway? People do 80 miles commute all the time. From the replies I don't know but I will be keeping all my options open.

People in rural areas do 80 mile commutes all the time. Do people in populated areas with serious rush-hour traffic commute like that? I doubt it. Or if they do, they're most likely hatin' it!

You got from Huntington Beach to Little Italy (basically downtown San Diego) in 60 minutes? Were you driving a Testarosa? That's impressive!

I did the downtown SD to Santa Ana commute for a year. I wouldn't recommend it
