Now we are up and running, and quicker, less expensive tests are being developed but its funny when media and uninformed say “where are the test kits???!!!!!” Like its a 5$ little box of goodies you can get at walmart and can be ran by some nurse in 2 minutes.
Yet countries like Germany and Korea were able to get effective testing up and running way earlier thereby tracking and isolating cases and hotspots earlier. This has been the proven strategy. We lost so much time that now we are dealing with way worse outbreaks. That's what people are upset about.

So who or what is to blame?

All you people now saying that the death toll will be much less than originally thought and that this is all been blown out of proportion are the same ones that were saying we only have a couple of cases here in the U.S. whats all the big fuss about. The only reason that we might not see hundreds of thousands of deaths from this virus is because of the aggressive strategies of social distancing that were put into place. It looks like CA has done this early enough to save a lot of lives and a lot of chaos. If you think you'll be just fine if you catch the virus you might be right... but you also might be wrong. There's been a lot of severe cases in younger and healthier people - more than people initially thought there would be. This virus is HIGHLY contagious and the amount of exposure to the virus you get makes a difference in how sick you get... this is why so many healthcare workers are getting so sick from this thing. And also why social distancing practices are good for not just avoiding catching the virus but avoiding catching a big dose and thereby a more severe case.

I think part of it is just the way the system is setup in the U.S. The way the different entities like CDC and FDA and the academic science labs are not used to functioning together as one unit. And then I think there has just been a real lack of leadership from the very beginning which meant we never had a clear streamlined plan to attack this thing.

This. And for those who have caught it and have survived, are those people all back to normal? There are some examples of scarring of the lungs from the survivors.

California's numbers are pretty impressive right now versus other states. While we have the fourth most cases of coronavirus of the fifty states, we only have 45 cases per 100,000 in the population. Of the states that have 10,000 or more cases, only us and Florida has under 100 cases per 100,000 (Florida is at 69 per). Michigan is at 190 per; Massachusetts 221; Louisiana 350; New Jersey 500; New York 719. States with fewer cases still have more per 100K than us: Connecticut is 218 per, Rhode Island is 116, Colorado 94, Vermont 92, Nevada 69, Idaho 68, etc.

The same is true with deaths: we have the 5th most in total but average 1 per 100K in the state. Late enacting states like Georgia and Mississippi have higher case and death percentages.

The fact that we are currently lending ventilators to other states right now shows how social isolation made our numbers much more benign than they could have been.

how does CA currently rank in cases and fatalities per capita versus other states if you have a ranked list web link ?

This was from yesterday - - obviously the numbers could have changed slightly since then. CNN is the provider but Johns Hopkins University is the one collecting the data.

All “us people” talking about the lower death toll include the director of the CDC. It’s not just my random opinion. I posted the link earlier.

If anyone needs a mask and wants to support a local California business, you can get them here.

Bloom, I ordered mine yesterday.

As you pointed out to me last week, the CA mandatory mask order is for Essential Workers engaging the public, not the overall general public. Are you an Essential?
