This is an old thread, but interesting.

A friend of mine is in a club (in San Diego) where in exchange for their paid membership they get to mine for gold on land the club licenses the mining rights or owns.

He likes looking for gold as a hobby, but has not found much after many trips out to the country. Then he got lucky.

I don't know how much he made from his little discovery.

Default San Diego Gold

google "san diego gold prospectors association" and you'll find the info you need. Some Californians make a living from prospecting. Good luck finding lots of gold.

Thanks Vince
They had a cool special on tv. Most of the gold is under water falls.

I was trying to think of something new and interesting for my 2 grand daughters I have been raising since mom abandoned them and would love to try to pan for gold! We live in Cardiff and would like to know if there is any close by spots we can start with! It is a birthday present I would love to give to Hazel on the 30th of this month!

Julian has at least one, maybe two places where you can pan for gold. It's set up for tourists - not realistic at all. But for a couple of kids, that might be less discouraging.

I've done the Eagle Mine tour, and enjoyed it. I haven't yet done Smith Ranch, but it looks worth at least one visit.

Panning is so much fun! You probably won't find much but it's still a lot of fun.
