Now don't get me wrong -I find your insights and information very helpful, but I do have a lot of questions that would probably best be answered by parents in North County. (ie pediatricians, dentists, speech therapists, summer camps, dance school recommendations). I'm wondering if anyone knows of a forum or board specific to North County parents?

I am in the same boat too. My area is Sabre Springs in North County and we are in need of pediatrician, orthodontist, dentist, ballet school, swim lessons, drama camp/school, and Suzuki or traditional piano teacher recommendations. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Thanks, Military Mom! We're looking in Carlsbad and Encinitas-for a late August move. And we need help w/all the above mentioned areas: drs, dentists, speech therapist for my 5yo, dance school for my 11yo, possibly swim & tennis lessons for the kids. It's pretty overwhelming to think about setting all this up for 4 kids-but we're really excited about moving! Thanks for any advice/recommendations!

You could join the Parent Connection: The Parent Connection - Scripps Health - San Diego (http://www.scripps.org/services/maternity-services/the-parent-connection - broken link). They are mostly known for their huge list of playgroups organized by neighborhood and age, but they have a Yahoo group forum, too.
If you tend to be a "natural" family, this is a great yahoo group:
SanDiegoNaturalFamilies : Attachmentparenting, homebirth and more
As for pediatricians, I really loved Michael Berant: https://www.82sharp.sharp.com/Physic...=1&drlink=6325 He's very gentle, attentive, always makes a point of chatting and listening to my older child when I take my babies in. I've had about 10 peds in the last 6 years and he's my favorite by far.

I was closer to poway area (do my recommendations for other practitioners would be too far), but my son has seen the therapists (SLP) at kara dodds and associates in encinitas. GREAT therapists and kara is awesome. Highly recommend them! Welcome To Kara Dodds & Associates Inc.

Dr Robert Barr (858 673-9270) in Rancho Bernardo is great. He is a pediatrician and his wife Margie is a lactation consultant. I highly recommend this practice.

Also, if you are looking for a good dentist go to Renato Bortolucci (858 673-9200). He's located in Rancho Bernardo as well.

MeetUp.com has a lot of online information about how to meet local people. Not sure if there's an actual forum though.

GL!

Just about every parent we know in Encinitas takes their kids to El Camino Pediatrics. A great practice, lots of personal attention (doctor calls you the day after your kid's appointment to make sure they're ok. Amazing nowadays!). The Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA on Saxony Road just east of the 5 at Encinitas Blvd. is an amazing resource for dance classes, swimming, tennis, all that. Look into it.

Default Mothers receive $10 for helping graduate student with dissertation research

My name is Nicole Lightman I am a doctoral student at Alliant International University and I am asking for your help in completing my final project to earn my doctorate in psychology. I am currently recruiting participants for my dissertation that is examining why some kids get hurt more than others. To participate you must be a mother of a child who is between the ages of 5 and 8 years old and is free of any developmental disabilities. If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to go to https://alliant.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_41Jo9jhzIxuVA8d and complete consent forms and questionnaires. These questionnaires should take you less than an hour to complete. After completion you will be contacted by the researcher and asked to come into a lab at Alliant International University in Scripps Ranch to complete activities, like problem-solving, with your child while being observed and video recorded. This should take no more than 30 minutes. Once this is completed you will receive your $10 gift card for yourself and your child will receive a prize. However, this is only an option for the first 100 people to answer these questionnaires. For further information please contact Nicole Lightman at nlightman@alliant.edu or (520) 400-8171. Thank you for your time!
