Almost forgot to mention that there are three Farmer's Markets in the downtown area - Little Italy, Gaslamp and Horton Plaza. Check out the one in nearby Hillcrest, too.

I would say that Vons, Albertsons, and Ralphs tend to have the highest prices, unless you are getting a sale. People have posted that they found Henry's to be better, it's largely focused on produce. But it depends on what you're buying.

Here is a thread about it:

There's a Fresh & Easy being built in North Park, scheduled to open next summer. For produce I go to the ethnic grocery stores, the closet to the EW would be Pancho Villa at 32nd & El Cajon. I used to go there when I lived in the EV. They also have good special on meat. I watch the sale ads every week, and only buy on sale, plus I use coupons, too. The Farmer's Markets are good, but their produce prices tend to be high, higher than the ethnic markets. I grew one patio tomato plant this year as an experiment, and it's outside my front door. It's done pretty well producing tomatoes, so next year I'm going to plant others, but not patio plants.

I've never been in one, but I'll check it out when the new one opens in North Park. But I doubt if it can beat the prices that I get.

I love it. convenient little place. It's not like a regular supermarket at all. Pretty cool change from the mainstream spots. I recommend trying it out and seeing what you think. Very affordable prices on meats and vegetables, and very fresh.

I agree, the pre-made are meals are better than buying fast-food crap all the time. There is one near my office in Sorrento Mesa and I'll pick something up on occasion.

Why would I want to buy pre-made meals, gourmet or otherwise? I guess that's for people who don't know how to cook! I do my own cooking, and freeze food in plastic storage containers. So if I don't feel like cooking, I just put one on the microwave, or take one out of the freezer and take it to work with me and do the same.

I know how to cook but a lot of instances I am short on time. This helps make my day much more efficient. I don't want to be cooking every day. Fresh & Easy is a nice plan for when you feel like being lazy- you can scoop up a few home-cooked meals and do no work for it! They also have most of the items a typical grocery store does. I just think it's a neat little store. Probably most girls would appreciate it more than guys.
