Interesting first person story on Berkeleyside:
Why we moved our startup from San Francisco to Berkeley (and why more will follow) | Berkeleyside

Key notes:
The labor pool with the move to Berkeley is a bit smaller, 2/3s smaller but Berkeley is a reasonable commute from the east bay and SF. And employees can live close to work for cheaper.

Are we seeing the start of an exodus?

Possibly, start-ups are all over the Bay Area, though.

It depends on where I end up living (Berkeley, Oakland, or SF) but I am strongly considering a startup as my next job. I had a really interesting offer from a startup here in Houston, but I turned it down because I was ready to get out of Texas

Well, this is a 4 person start-up and it looks like the article is an excuse to self-promote.

Not to say this couldn't happen, but if the article was about a major employer moving to Berkeley, I'd pay it more mind.

This isn't a concern for SF. They have all sorts of tech activity happening around 10th and Market anchor by the Large Twitter building.

I think the East Bay in general is a wonderful start up zone. There are large numbers of people living in the East Bay who already work at start ups, have experience at start ups or want to be at a start up. A ready made labor pool and lower operating costs, seems like winner to me!

Anyone notice how the real tech companies are still in the south bay?.. BitGym? You will be promptly forgotten.

The exodus has been going on for years. Why do you think B of A moved to Charlotte ? Bans pay their execs with titles not cash. All those VPs couldn't afford to stay.
