Her parents tried to bribe her to come back home by saying they would cover any fees for breaking the lease... Occupy Oakland had her Mom on tranquilizers... she was almost scared to death...

Another is the son of a Doctor parents... their son had a $1900 a month small apartment near Jack London Square... his parents also lived in Oakland when they first got married and now in Danville... they told me he is not even saving money by living in Oakland...
Compared to how hip and lively lake merrit is on Saturdays ,jack London square on Sundays ,the 1st Fridays and the cool restaurant and entertainment scene it is not surprising for twenty something's to prefer oakland to Pleasanton or Danville.

I met her 21 year old daughter and she has a job making enough to cover her share of the rent and living expenses and is not putting much into savings...

She loves Oakland's location and can't understand how her parents gave up Rockridge for Pleasanton when she was 3 years old...

Got it ha. The issue isn't Oakland in this case. It is her being a typical 21 year old. She isn't think of her financial future.

IMO, it really seems like a no brainer for a young adult to pick Oakland over Pleasanton at this stage in Oakland's renaissance. Obviously there are individual wants and needs and Oakland won't fill them for all young adults but generally speaking... Heck, I'm 20 years older and I wouldn't ever dream of moving to the 680 corridor. I speak for myself only. Cheers.
