Wondering anyone familiar with San Carlos area? Is it a hilly town or relatively flat town? Based on what I see from some of the houses' photos, there seem to be some not quite flat area.

Which part of San Carlos is flat?

Considering moving to bay area ... before go to take a look at the area, want to make our list as short as possible. We don't want to consider hilly areas to live...

Greatly appreciated in advance!

I always think of San Carlos as flat, because that's the area I drive through and where I have dined.

Here's a small topographic map that shows hilly portions, too:

As the topographic maps in previous post shows, the part of San Carlos east of El Camino and Alameda de las Pulgas, all the way to 101 is flat. But west of that is hills. Some residential streets can be narrow, windy, and hilly.

In general, people prefer west of Alameda de las Pulgas, which are mostly single family residences. Around El Camino and east to 101, its mixed commercial/residential and includes higher density housing (apartments).

San Carlos is very hot right now, and prices are way up, sadly.

It is mostly hilly but there are flat parts. If I am looking online at a home listing, I will google map it and chose the bike option to figure out the elevation.

San Carlos is flat until it isn't. The area to the east of El Camino Real is pancake flat, peppered with industrial areas, and has intermittent issues with flooding due to the low elevation. To the west of El Camino it is a gradual incline, until you start getting into some very steep and rugged terrain as you go along Edgewood Road. You should also be aware, for the purposes of real estate valuation, that the part of Redwood City north of Whipple Ave is also zoned to at least some San Carlos schools. The "letter" streets in RWC can be a good value.

Depends on how much money you have.

If you have 1 million it is flat.
If you have 2 million it is hilly.

there is a part of san carlos in the south west hills that is zoned to Redwood City school, so watch the school districts carefully.

sonorrat, RWC north of Whipple is still zoned to RWC school, I am not aware of any part of Redwood City zoned to San Carlos.
