"Last year, a raucous city council meeting over rent control in Alameda, population 75,000, resulted in two arrests. Farther north, city leaders of Sonoma County's Healdsburg, population 11,000, approved voluntary guidelines to keep rent increases to 10 percent or less.

Tenant activists in Alameda and Richmond — a waterfront industrial town of nearly 110,000 — are fighting to place rent control on municipal ballots this fall. So are residents of Burlingame, a pricey, leafy city of 30,000 on the San Francisco Peninsula."

It is happening... remember a time when Oakland had no rent control and passing it was suppose to cure all...

All it has done is create barriers and another layer of bureaucracy.

As these measures come into place... I have been slowly getting out of the residential housing provider business.

There was a time when owners were offering move in concessions and bonuses and political leaders said they can't be held responsible for under capitalized private businesses having problems.

I never would have imagined a residential tenant by statute has the right to run a business in my home or keep pets called service animals and why are they all Pit bulls?

Soon all rental housing will be defacto government housing.
