Oh jeez, I hate to be mean to a kid. I assume you are in Junior High? Your parents made a good purchase. One could actually buy a house in SF in the 200's even in 1997. Those days are long gone...

ummm so why do you think i'm so immature? the whole point of considering a condo (as i have said in the OP) is that i am well aware of how expensive land is! So i have underestimated prices of condos (prices are just outdated ; those prices would have been accurate just a few years ago (2-3 years ago) - that doesn't make me clueless. I am still well aware that property in SF is expensive, which is what triggered this thread in the first place

If you want to live in SF proper then buy whatever you can afford whether it's a SFH or a Condo. So, what can you afford?

I know someone who just sold a 1 bedroom condo for 900k so I don't know where you are getting this 300k price point.

and why not? it's been active for a while and still not purchased yet. it's not like you have to sit staring at your screen for that 1/1000000000000 chance of finding such a deal

Another very poor analogy from you. All homes are purchased (or should be purchased) when the buyer thinks it's a good deal ("lottery")

Must be 1st-time homebuyer & income eligible. Maximum income for 1 person = $57,100; 2 = $65,200; 3 = $73,350 Application, loan pre-approval, homebuyer education certificate and SF Purchase Contract due on 4/19/2016 @ Realtor's office.

If you meet requirements it looks like you have a few days left to jump on it, but be sure you want that place because you won't make much profit selling it and it comes with some restrictions apparently.

No it literally is a lottery. They have a lottery for who gets to buy it
