Going to talk to folk about a job at the college. I live in Western MA now and have always wanted to live in San Fran

I'm in my forties, single, female. Would not have a ton of money as a teacher.
Areas or advice? Know anything about the rep of the college?
It is a big move, so it would need to offer something good.

I love the Bay area for the arts, and want to be able to access that reasonably

I moved from Western MA to Northern CA in 1993 - If your thinking of teaching at Los Medanos College I would seriously consider visiting first. If you want to compare it to something in Western Ma think State Street in Springfield.

Pittsburgh rents are less than Concord, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek but I wouldn't recommend that as an ideal place to live for a single woman.

Thanks! I know State Street in Springfield, that helps more than browing the internet alone! That helps a lot to know what to expect.

My spouse is a tenured English professor at Los Medanos College where he has been on the faculty since 1991. We are familiar with Massachusetts having lived and worked there for many years before moving on. I have relatives who live in Springfield, so am familiar with Western MA. If you want some first hand information about Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, feel free to send me a personal message.

Thanks so much for that, I ended up taking another position closer to where I am for this next year. That would have been terrific though.

I see your location is Northampton. That used to be my old stomping grounds way back when!

Smile I attend LMC

The area around LMC is pretty much just a little city. I lived there for 20 years. I live a few cities away now. (About 15 min out.) I think that if you want to visit SF frequently as well as the other awesome towns around it that offer wonderful leisurely lifestyle and culture and arts (Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Benicia, Oakland) then the area around LMC is great. You are less than an hour from these great places, the weather is AWESOME, and yet you're not paying a whole lot for rent and living. I live in this area and love that it's more afforbdable but within reach of these places.

I have lived alone in this area as a single woman since I was 18 and I am now 24. I have had no problems whatsoever and have enjoyed it.
