The Sunnyvale - to - Redwood Shores commute will probably take about 45m - 1h during rush hour if you live close to the 101.

280 might be quicker

Not sure I agree in this case, unless the OP is close to 280 (which is usually a good idea). 92 can get cramped up with only two lanes each direction.

I commuted on that stretch of 92 for three years. Yes, it can be slow during rush hour, but it's an absolute breeze compared to 101 which is a big parking during those hours.

Whenever I've taken 280 it's always much less traffic than 101.

The issue can be getting to 280 from certain parts of Sunnyvale. It can be up to 8 miles on Lawrence Expressway, which makes it a less attractive proposition. Or else you're taking a huge detour via 237/85 which adds perhaps 20 extra miles.

I would highly recommend disregarding where other Indians do or do not live. You'd be far better off in the long run if you lived in as diverse a neighborhood as possible. When particular ethnicities crowd together it breeds the notion that the people there don't want to integrate, which is seen as distinctly un-American, and even suspicious.

If you moved to India, would you prefer to live in neighborhood where there were some Americans, or a neighborhood where there were no Americans?

One would be hard pressed to find a neighborhood in the bay area with no Indians.

Indians ARE Asians - South Asians, as opposed to East Asians (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese). Let's clear this up now, it's like saying Catholics and Christians. Cupertino does have a lot of Indian families.
