My family and I just booked a ticket to sarasota in october. Should I be concerned about running into a hurrincane in october. Should I change my flight?

Hurricane season is from June 1-Nov 30th. I don't think anyone can predict what the weather might be like in October. I would suggest you keep an eye on the weather a few weeks prior to visiting.

For what it's worth, I'm a FL native (38) and have never evacuated due to a hurricane. Not to say that I wouldn't, just never felt the need to.

According to historical data Sept and Oct have the highest chance of storm activity: List of Florida hurricanes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I would say the closer to November the better. November has a much lower chance of storms.

Are you visiting in early October or later in the month? Usually the closer you get to November, the less chance of a major storm hitting our area. Although, I do remember one Thanksgiving I had family members visiting and tropical storm Keith ruined our plans for a trip to Silver Springs.

We visit Sarasota every October and I have never had anything but beautiful weather! Not to mention it is way less crowded. We visited in June this year and I will never come back in June unless necessary.

Of course, you cannot predict the weather but I can say for the last ten years at least there has never been a hint of weather trouble when we visited in October.

Hope you have a wonderful tine!

Yup. You can't predict weather, but October is usually one of the nicest months here. Best time to visit, IMO.

Even though there is always a chance for a hurricane.....this area has not been hit by a hurricane (just a few tropical storms) directly in many years. I wouldn't worry.

I have spent the last six Octobers in Florida and have only seen the occasional (very occasional) shower. The first time we were there, there was one shower which lasted all of one minute! Since then very little. I didn't even feel the slightest wind while there so be reassured and enjoy yourself!

October in Sarasota, FL
Average temp high 85, low 65 for the month of Oct.
Hurricane Season – the most active months are Aug. and Sept.
Historically Sarasota has suffered little damage due to hurricanes.
1960 – Hurricane Donna – water from bays and inlets caused damage
2004 – Hurricane Charley – damage in Western Sarasota County
You can wear shorts and t-shirts, get gentle breezes, and enjoy the sunshine.
October is a wonderful time to visit. Although that is when most of the snow birds start coming down, so it does get a little more crowded.

My father has visited on vacation every October for as long as I can remember and never run into any problems with the weather. It should be a safe bet.

Default Misc musings.

I have recently become interested in relocating to the Sarasota area and am impressed with the activity on this forum; especially SOFLGAL who contributes so much good information!

Is this area as really as special it sounds? I am currently in Charleston, S.C. and Sarasota seems to parallel it, albiet East Coast/West Coast. (the Gulf coast is really more beautiful, water wise..)

thoughts appreciated..
